Ise Katagami is the art of creating a patterned stencil using washi paper, by hand cutting with a knife. These stencils can be used to print on fabrics, typically for kimono (traditional dress). It is so symbolic to Japanese culture that it is now a protected cultural activity by the Japanese government.
